Seniors:  Coca-Cola is offering 250 merit-based scholarships.  To b eligible you must be a senior, have at least a 3.75+ G.P.A. and be an involved leader in school clubs and organizations, extra-curricular activities, and community service.  Application information is available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline for applying is midnight October 31.

 

 

Seniors:  Interested in an engineering degree?  Do you have a 3.5+ G.P.A. and a composite 27+ on the ACT?  Are you involved in extra-curricular activities?  The Society of Automotive Engineers is offering scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full tuition for four years.  See Mrs. Gervais in the Guidance Office for an application.

 

Seniors, the Elks National Foundation is again offering their “Most Valuable Student” scholarship.  Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 per year for four years.  These scholarships are very competitive and require the following criteria:  a 3.5+ G.P.A., lots of extra curricular activities, community service, and financial need.  Get your application in the Guidance Office if this is a match.  Deadline to apply is January 7, 2005.

 

Seniors, the Guidance Office would like to keep a record of those students receiving scholarships and awards.  If you have received notification from a college that you have received an award or scholarship, please bring a copy of your award letter to the Guidance Office.  This information is important for our scholarship and awards program in May.

 

Seniors, the American Legion Auxiliary has scholarships available for students pursuing careers in any area of medicine.  Candidates must be daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sons, grandson, great grandsons or step of a veteran.  Come to the Guidance Office for an application if this is a match for you.

 

Seniors, the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary have scholarships available to children, grandchildren, great grandchildren or step of veterans who served during a recognized war period.  This is a good source for financial aid.  Be sure to check with your counselor about this opportunity.

 

Seniors, the Michigan Education Association is offering several $1,000+ scholarships.  Only public high school students are eligible, and the recipients must attend a college, community college or vocational school in Michigan.  Come to the Guidance Office for your application.

 

Are you a Senior planning to attend Michigan Tech University next year?  If the answer is yes, you need to stop by the Guidance Office and ask about the ROTC  Scholarship Program.  You must have a 24 ACT to apply.  The first year there is no commitment to the Air Force.  Stop by and get more information from Pam Gervais in the Guidance Office today --  Deadline is Dec. 1st, 2004.

Cap and gown orders will be taken from 7:15 through all three lunches in the lobby on Wednesday, December 8.

 

Seniors, Western Michigan University offers Aviation Flight Science, Aviation Maintenance Technology and Aviation Administration.  There are also partial and full scholarships being granted to students pursuing a career in aviation.  Stop by the Guidance Office for more information if you are interested in aviation as a career.

 

On Wednesday, December 15, Dr. Betty Youngblood will make a presentation to seniors who would like to attend Lake State next fall.  The presentation will be made during 2nd hour and interested seniors must sign up in the Guidance Office.  For those students who sign up on this date, the customary application fee will be waived.

 

Attention College Bound Seniors:  Everyone planning to attend college next fall must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This form is now available in the Guidance Office and should be mailed before March 1, 2005.  Get a form from your counselor and be sure to attend the Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, January 5.

 

Seniors, Are you going to pursue a two or four year degree in any area related to agriculture?  If you are there are several scholarships available in a wide variety of fields in this interest.  Stop by the Guidance Office and ask about the scholarships related to agriculture.              

 

Seniors:  interested in the radio/music industry after graduation?  Scholarships are available.  Applications can be obtained in the Guidance Office.

 

Seniors interested in a career in the manufactured housing or RV and campground industry should stop by the Guidance Office for scholarship and grant information that is available to you.

Seniors, Mrs. Debbie Faust the Financial Aid Director from LSSU will present a financial aid workshop at 7:00 on Wednesday, January 5 in the Strahl Theater.  Emphasis will be on financial aid eligibility and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend this worthwhile presentation.

 

Seniors, Phi Delta Kappa International is offering three local scholarships up to $500 and 30 international scholarships from $1000 to $5000 to high school seniors planning of a career in education.  3.5+ G.P.A., school and community activities, a 750-word essay and letters of recommendation are part of the application process.  Applications can be obtained from Mrs. Gervais in the Guidance Office.

 

Seniors, if you are a member of a minority and have a sincere interest in the journalism/newspaper industry, the Detroit Free Press is offering a $1000 scholarship, which can then lead to national scholarships totaling up to $40,000 over four years.  See Mrs. Gervais in the Guidance Office if you fit the criteria.

Wal-Mart is offering two $1,000.00 scholarships locally to graduating seniors.  You must apply on-line.  Interested applicants may log on at Walmartfoundation.org.  Click on Sam Walton Community Scholarship program.  You will need our local store number, which is 1936.  Deadline is February 1, 2005.  Apply today.

The Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund organization is offering $1000 scholarships to those seniors, who are actively involved in extra curricular activities, community service or jobs that make them productive members of their community.  If you are going to attend college or trade school and are interested in applying for this scholarship, stop by the Guidance Office for an application.  Deadline is March 15.

 

Seniors, the Ancient Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for the Valley of Marquette will offer four $700 scholarships to U.P. college bound students with a 3.0 G.P.A. and a 20+ ACT score.  Membership in the Masons is not a requirement.  Leadership, school involvement, work experience, and financial need are all considerations.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 

Juniors, the United States Military Academy is having the 29th Annual Summer Leadership Seminar.  If you are in the top 20% of your class, and have demonstrated leadership potential, you may qualify for an invitation to attend this seminar.  Get an application on-line @ admissions@usma.edu.  Deadline is Feb 28.

 

Young men and women in grades 10, 11 and 12 who have a sincere interest in law can attend a weeklong program (June 12-17) meeting per sons who practice in such professions.  Students get a hands-on experience of what the State Trooper Recruit Training is all about.  All costs, except transportation are covered by the local Kiwanis Club.  You need to be of good moral character, have a 2.0 G.P.A., be healthy and have no juvenile offense or criminal record.  Mrs. Gervais has applications and additional information.

 

The National Youth Science Foundation is offering a scholarship to outstanding academic achievement in science.  To receive an application come to the Guidance Office for the website address.

 

Seniors, there is an essay based scholarship being offered by Student-view.  You need to apply on line at www.student-view.com.  This scholarship is for $5,000.00.  Go on-line now and apply.  The deadline is February 28.

 

A $2,000.00 scholarship is being offered by the ROSA PARKS Scholarship Foundation.  You need to have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. and civic and community service to apply.  Get the form from Mrs. Gervais in the Guidance Office.  Deadline is April 1.

 

Seniors, if you are a college bound minority student and need financial aid, over 50 national scholarships are available to you.  These are large scholarships and have lots of unique application criteria:  writing, video production, sports, inventions, accounting, etc.  Remember; nothing ventured, nothing gained except maybe some big bucks to go to college.  Come down to the Guidance Office and check these out.

 

Seniors, Marquette General Health System has $4,000 renewable scholarships and loans available for individuals pursuing careers in: dietetics, medical records/transcription/coding, medical technology, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiological sciences, respiratory therapy, and speech pathology.  Deadline to apply is April 1, 2005.  Get more information from your counselor if you are interested in this opportunity.

    Seniors, the Order of the Eastern Star will be awarding two $500 scholarships to two seniors who are completing a Career Technical Education program and will be received a CTE certificate.  Additional criteria for this scholarship is:

1.      pursuing a one, two or four-year technical degree.

2.      2.0 GPA

3.      teacher recommendation letter

4.      involvement in service activities

5.      special consideration will be given to a relative of an Order of Eastern Star Member

    Seniors, the Sault Teachers (S.E.A.) are sponsoring two $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors who are going on to college.  If you have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher, and plan to attend college or university next fall, please pick up an application in the counseling office this week.  Applications are due back by April 15, and require a letter of reference.
